Meet Russell Shippee

Russell Shippee, Rhode Island coach.

Russell Shippee graduated from Bryant University and Harvard Business School. He joined the family insurance agency while in college and earned degrees as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counsellor (CIC).

He grew the family business by expanding services, increasing sales, adding producers and acquiring many other insurance agencies. There were offices in Providence, North Kingstown, and Woonsocket, covering all of Rhode Island. in 1997 he negotiated the sale of the agency to USI Insurance Service Corporation (a national insurance brokerage) and became the Chief Operation Officer of the ten New England offices.

In addition to the activities of growing a successful insurance business, Russell enjoyed giving back to the community. He coached, mentored and participated in the management of the businesses of many clients.

Giving back to his community also included being on many boards including The Providence Ronald McDonald House, RI Hospital and South County Hospital. While he was treasurer of RI Hospital, he also was actively involved in fundraising and was co-chair of the Hasbro Capital Campaign to finish building the hospital. He was Chair of the South County Hospital Campaign to build the new bed tower (which exceeded its goal). As Chair of the Ronald McDonald House Capital Campaign, the house was built in record time without the need for a mortgage. He enjoys asking for donations, giving people the chance to give back as well.

Since leaving USI in 2001, Russell has continued with his life insurance and estate planning business as well as writing a book, Our Journey is Our Work - Creating my Obituary. He is working on another book, consults, coaches and speaks publicly.

Russell thrives on helping others chart their business and life courses. He give keynote and motivational speeches as well as workshops, coaching or consulting individuals and businesses.
